According to reports, a total of 1667573 students have registered for class 10 exam this year. 1491371 have applied to sit for the Class 10 Board exam last year. The Board, teachers and students now believe that the short delay in announcing the dates for exams will not create any problem in announcing the results on time as admission to Class 12 is dependent on the Class 10 results.

Software firm Ideagen secure six figure, five year contract with Air Transat

Software firm Ideagen secure six figure contract with Air Transat
Canadian airline to implement Ideagen Enlighten to enhance safety reporting and strengthen safety culture

Air Transat, the Canadian leisure airline, is to work with software firm Ideagen in a six-figure five-year contract to enhance aviation safety reporting across its operations.

Ideagen Enlighten, Ideagen’s cloud-based software, will be rolled out across Air Transat, strengthening its safety culture and increasing efficiencies for staff, particularly safety investigators.
Enlighten will allow Air Transat’s safety investigation and senior management teams to analyse safety data in real time, helping the airline to react quicker to potential hazards and mitigate risks.
Dave Bourdages, Air Transat’s Senior Director of Safety, Quality and Security, said: “Ideagen Enlighten will allow us to analyse data better, assess trends across the business and provide us with key performance indicators which we can communicate to upper management.

“We’re going to be able to see live, in real time, what is happening with the airline operationally and be able to react quicker and better should the need to react arise.
“Safety assessments, or risk assessments, can be done on the spot and should there be a need to investigate, the safety officer can devote his time to the investigation using accurate data.”
Air Transat plan to open their new reporting system to external services such as Ground Operations. This move will increase the quality of safety data further and allow the airline to make more informed decisions.

Mr Bourdages added: “Over time, our goal is to take all of the various reports we have – such as safety, health and safety, injury declaration reports, captain reports, flight directory reports – and join them under one, single, database. This will give us much better visibility as to what is currently happening at the airline and during our operations.
“Ideagen Enlighten will also allow us to deploy the system to sub-contractors such as Ground Operations at different airports. Those safety reports from Ground Ops – and other services as well – will feed into our system directly to increase our safety and risk knowledge.

“I believe Ideagen Enlighten will take us to the forefront of safety reporting.”
Based in Montreal, Quebec, Air Transat operates scheduled and charter flights and serves 63 destinations in 30 countries. The organisation has over 2,000 employees and has a fleet of 30 aircraft including Airbus A310-300s, A330-200s and A330-300s as well as 7 Boeing 737-800s.
Ideagen is a global leader in developing information management software and providing supporting services to organisations operating in some of the most highly regulated industries in the world.
It currently has a global customer base of over 2,500 organisations, including more than 300 airlines, and counts Boeing, Emirates, Thomas Cook and KLM amongst its client list.

As part of its contributions to help improve human capital skills in the country in accordance with UAE Vision 2021, Imdaad, the GCC’s leading integrated facilities management (FM) company based in Dubai, has expressed its optimism for the year 2017 and has forged a strategic partnership with Al nokhba Model School in Dubai to convert a huge hall at the school’s campus into a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) laboratory and a library to encourage reading. Imdaad signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with Al nokhba Model School to formalize the joint public-private venture that is expected to prepare students across the Arab state for the jobs of the future.

The company’s latest partnership is the leading FM firm’s response to UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s move declaring 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving.’ The national initiative focuses on three main pillars, namely creating a sense of community responsibility in the private sector, enhancing the spirit of volunteering and encouraging specialized volunteer programs, and instilling loyalty and commitment in the next generations to serve their country.

By investing in the cutting-edge STEM laboratory, Imdaad is demonstrating its unwavering dedication to take on worthy causes that will have far-reaching benefits for the whole society. STEM has emerged as an important and indispensable component of the UAE’s shift towards a knowledge-driven economic framework. Additionally, the government’s heavy investments in this field is its proactive response to the global need for smart and alert students who will be qualified to join the burgeoning sectors of renewable energy, oil and gas, construction, real estate, finance, information technology, medicine technology, and health, among others, in the future. In the UAE, of the 43,000 students enrolled in higher education in 2013, only 30 per cent were in STEM-related fields.

Jamal Abdullah Lootah, CEO, Imdaad, said: “By building this upcoming new best-in-class STEM laboratory and library, both Imdaad and Al nokhba Model School hope to encourage pupils across the UAE to pursue STEM studies in higher learning as well as inspire reading. The laboratory will be equipped with advanced and cutting-edge tools essential to nurturing the skills of our young students. Students nationwide will have access to the modern facility once its construction is completed, and we are confident that it will draw a great number of learners from all over the country. Through this joint project with Al nokhba Model School, we look forward to reinforcing inquiry-based science education in the country, which in turn will make our children more knowledgeable about science-related issues.”

Bushra Salem AlShoumi, Principal, Al nokhba School, added: “We believe that partnerships with socially responsible organizations such as Imdaad are vital to ensuring that our students have access to all the tools and facilities necessary for them to succeed professionally and personally. We appreciate Imdaad’s extraordinary efforts to help us provide a strong background in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to learners across the country while encouraging them to take up reading as an important lifelong habit. Our upcoming STEM laboratory is a testament to the great things that the education and private sectors can achieve together, and how forging a bright future for youths is a mission we can and should all partake in.”

The soon-to-rise STEM laboratory will also complement the Dubai Government’s ongoing smart initiatives launched to make the emirate one of the world’s highly innovative and smartest cities in the next few years. In line with these initiatives, the government has been pushing for increased collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve its set objectives of smart life, smart transportation, smart society, smart economy, smart governance and smart environment.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has launched the Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management program which aims to improve the ability of participants to manage international events with high efficiency and in accordance with the highest quality and innovation standards using the latest technologies, in addition to effectively managing various challenges, situations and changes brought about by the 21st century. The new offering, which has obtained a Pearson recognition in education, is part of the professional training programs under the HBMSU umbrella and is an important addition to nationwide efforts under UAE Vision 2021 to develop the potentials of the country’s human resources in building a competitive knowledge-based economy.

The Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management is part of HBMSU’s integrated portfolio of innovative academic and professional programs specifically designed to support investments in human capital as called for by UAE Vision 2021 which aims to build a competitive economy led by UAE Nationals through knowledge and innovation. The program is based on a blended learning mechanism which provides an ideal training model to upgrade professional skills in events management and relevant areas. The Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management reflects the university’s commitment to reshape the future of education, learning and vocational training using innovative methods that serve the grand aspirations of the UAE to create a generation qualified to lead the development process, propelling it to become among the leading countries in the world.

Athbah Al Kamdah, Vice Chancellor, Learner Development, HBMSU, explained that the Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management is of exceptional importance as it is key to preparing UAE’s workforce through knowledge, innovation and the ability to make a positive change in the events management industry both locally and internationally, as well as play a pivotal role in the success of hosting Expo 2020 in Dubai with the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. The global event is expected to support Dubai’s economy with revenues estimated at USD 23 billion. Launching the program aims to meet the growing need for high levels of professionalism and innovation as part of the preparations for this prestigious global event which is expected to draw in over 25 million visitors to the emirate in over six months. This requires a consolidated effort to build integrated and fully-qualified teams that can design and implement associated events at par with the level of leadership that Dubai has established worldwide.

Al Kamdah said: “Events management is the suitable environment for those who think creatively and have the ability to innovate, organize, plan and communicate effectively, as well as implement plans professionally, taking into account the fine details that make a difference. Event management is of growing importance today in conjunction with advanced technological developments which have imposed a lot of complexities on organizing exhibitions and conferences that have numerous economic, social and cultural benefits. Which is why we are keen to implement the Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management – to provide the participants with the international best practices, highest professional standards and modern methodologies in planning, organizing and managing events and related activities – starting from securing sponsors and logistical support to marketing the event, producing and presenting it in an innovative and distinctive manner. This will contribute effectively to the success of Expo 2020, which will undoubtedly be the largest cultural and economic gathering in the world.”

HBMSU is implementing the new program using the latest smart learning methods, as well as taking advantage of the technical competence, academic experience, and the advanced infrastructure and technology available in its modern facilities, which are essential in enabling learners and trainees to acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan for a future founded on innovation, creativity, excellence, quality and knowledge.

HBMSU uses the latest smart learning technologies essential in the three stages of learning and training for the program to effectively disseminate its lessons to the largest possible number of students in a short time. The three stages of learning start from ‘awareness’ which is based on self-learning, followed by ‘application’ which allows traditional direct training, and ending with ‘follow-up’ which includes support and guidance using the default means. The program has attracted significant interest from practitioners of event management, public relations, media management, and corporate and government communication, as well as individuals and institutions working in the protocols sector.

The Professional Diploma in Events and Convention Management covers 24 training days, at an average of 6 hours a day in addition to a day for the presentation of the graduation project. The program includes six training modules in the Arabic language covering all relevant aspects of event management. These modules include ‘The Development of Events and Event Management Industry; The Creative Design of the Event and Choosing Speakers and Partners; Preparing and Managing Budgets and Implementing the Logistics; Planning and Designing Marketing Plans and Public Relations Campaigns; Protocols and Etiquettes; Applied Practices; and the graduation project.

THE FUTURE OF HEALTH & FITNESS IS IN YOUR DNA

THE FUTURE OF HEALTH & FITNESS IS IN YOUR DNA

THE FUTURE OF HEALTH & FITNESS IS IN YOUR DNA
102

What’s in Your Genes? We know from twin and family studies that your personality is just less than 50% inherited from your parents. A new study in Nature Genetics has made a substantial impact on how we see ourselves. This paper shows that genetic profile is directly associated with personality. The researchers at the University of California identified six gene variations that correlate with different personality test scores. The research also showed that many of the genes involved in personality overlap with those involved in the risk of developing physical disease and mental health disorders.

Just4Me Lifestyle has been working with Professor Kennedy, a Neuroscientist and Founding Fellow of the Harvard Medical School Hospital, to make the scientific research simple. This is to ensure anyone can understand what they can do to improve their genes, their health and even performance.
As explained by Prof. Kennedy, a gene is a segment of DNA that is coded to pass along a certain trait; it has a specific task for example determining your blood group, colour of your eyes etc. Genes are the simplest building blocks of heredity. They are grouped together in specific patterns within a person’s chromosomes, forming the unique “blueprint” for every physical and biological characteristic of that person.

Chromosomes are made up of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules. Humans have 46 chromosomes arranged in pairs in every living cell of our bodies. When the egg and sperm join at conception, half of each chromosomal pair is inherited from each parent.

Your genome has survived 3.8 billion years of modification to get where it is in your cells today.
Over 3 billion letters in our human code are responsible for building around 25,000 genes that make you who you are. These 3 billion letter contain the instructions for both physical and psychological qualities.

As well as determining characteristics such as eye and hair color, your genes can also directly cause or increase your risk of a wide range of medical conditions.
“EVERY PERSON WHO WANTS TO KNOW THEIR GENETIC BACKGROUND SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO SO”
By working together with the world’s leading and most innovative biotech companies and researchers like Professor Kennedy they can offer genetic testing that enables individuals to discover new insights about their body and its functions.

Through a simple saliva test, their NutriFit test analyses over 110 genes related to nutrition, diet, fitness, and even psychology. Due to genetics, the same kind of training doesn’t work for everyone therefore an optimized approach is essential and absolutely necessary for optimal diet and training results. With this information they can provide guidelines allowing you to take appropriate actions in order to optimize your athletic performance, improve your health and wellbeing, find the right diet and eating plan, positively affect the quality of your life and minimize the possibility of developing diseases and health related problems

Just4Me are not just limited to fitness and nutrition and one of their goals is addressing the main issues in the region which is obesity and health related problems. They also offer their Personal Genetic Analysis test analysing over 150 genes related to disease susceptibility, response to certain medicines and traits and talents and access to their sister medical company Just4Me Genetics, offering further medical analyses in the fields of Cardiology, Hereditary Cancers, Pediatrics, Neurology and Hematology. These are all at an affordable price and far more advanced than its competitors (ideal for looking into family hereditary diseases).

An excellent area to begin with is Nutrigenetics allowing an individual to discover the most effective nutrition and fitness plan using their genetic profile, used for everything from weight loss to increasing muscle strength in athletes. Professor Kennedy’s protocols have been used with Olympic athletes, Football teams like Barcelona FC and Lionel Messi and even at NASA. His work has been published with Harvard Medical School to control symptoms of hypertension, obesity, cardiac disease, stroke and ADHD. He used the genetic tests to inform what kind of tailored preventative medical program each person’s genetic profile required.

Even more astoundingly, his programs have been published to show how genetic analysis can improve your IQ, memory and ability to solve complex strategic problems. He has also used the Just4Me NutriFit Analysis to see how food impacts each patient’s genetic profile. This is the science of Nutrigenomics and he has used it to treat nutrition as the neurological “signals” which changed the gene expression after they completed his program making them healthier and fit to perform at their peak.

Genetics alone cannot provide you with improved performance and lifestyle, which is why it is important to have the best coaches, facilities, scientists and optimal environmental conditions. The Just4Me Team of Experts and their high quality partners and clinics help you along the way taking you on a journey to achieving your goals; whether its weight loss, gaining muscle, injury prevention, disease prevention or just gaining greater vitality. With your genetic analysis their expert team and partners will optimise your training, nutrition, recovery and injury prevention programs, working with everyone from kids to professional athletes and even the elderly.

It is never too late to discover your genes…”It is never too late to discover your genes but children especially can benefit from a young age. Just4Me strongly believe that education is an important factor and by offering more than just a DNA test individuals gain greater benefits and improved results through understanding. By educating children about their genome, they can learn about foods and exercises suited to their bodies while also preventing injuries which is a common problem later in life. At the same time any potential health risks and diseases are flagged and important recommendations can be provided.

GETEX to offer interactive platform for global education services providers to engage international students

GETEX to offer interactive platform for global education services providers to engage international students

GCC to have 15 million students by 2020 at CAGR of 3.6 per cent
GetexThe GCC’s education sector is experiencing robust growth driven by a steady student enrolment rate amidst rapid population growth. The leadership push for the development of a knowledge-based economy in the UAE, is generating positive response to higher education from UAE Nationals. According to a recent study, the total number of students in the region’s education sector is poised to reach 15 million in 2020 at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.6 per cent from 12.6 million in 2015. Enrolment is set to grow at a CAGR of 5.1 per cent in private schools and 2.6 per cent in government schools.

The UAE in particular has been developing its higher education segment with the establishment of prominent international universities and educational institutions with the aim of becoming a hub for higher education to attract overseas students. The country’s tertiary enrolment rate is increasing, with 42,000 additional seats required by 2020. Of the AED 48.7 billion 2017 budget forming part of the five-year AED 248 billion general federal budget for 2017-2021, AED 10.2 billion or 20.5 per cent has been allocated for general and higher education.

Complementing the GCC’s robust education sector, the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX), the leading student recruitment platform in the Middle East and Asia, offers a unique platform for educational institutions, colleges and universities from all over the world to get in touch with potential students. The interactive seminars at GETEX enables students to collectively listen to presentations from university representatives, ask questions and get first-hand information on various programs and courses, fee structures, campus and hostel facilities, and scholarship opportunities.
Anselm Godinho, Managing Director, International Conferences and Exhibitions, organiser of GETEX, said: “The GCC’s education sector is growing sustainably, supported by the high disposable income of the local and expatriate population who are on the lookout for high-quality education for their children. Also, the recent emphasis on industry-driven education has amplified the interest of students and parents who recognise the value of career-focused education. The traditional and cultural mind-set that education must be academic and intellectual or it’s not education has given way to a more modern concept leading to more students taking courses in the arts, media, mechanics, robotics, aviation, hospitality, among others.

As the Middle East’s longest-running student sourcing event, GETEX is a perfect venue for education services providers to meet prospective students to inform them about various educational programs and courses. We are confident that like previous shows, the 2017 edition of GETEX will enable colleges and universities to meet their student enrolment quotas.”
Dr S V Kota Reddy, Academic President – Manipal University, Dubai campus, commented: “Manipal University Dubai campus has been one of the earliest supporters of GETEX and a consistent participant for a number of years now. Students and parents find the exhibition to be a great opportunity to interact with professionals from the higher education space so that they can plan ahead when it comes to career options in the future. With a legacy that spans decades of quality education, we feel our presence here has been very effective over the years, being able to help students and parents take the right career decision.”

Dan Adkins, Academic Director for Murdoch University Dubai, added: “We have been participating in GETEX for seven years because it is the premier educational conference in the UAE and we have been told by many parents and students from across the region that they found it to be a great way to learn about the leading universities in the UAE, such as Murdoch University – Dubai. GETEX offers us the opportunity to assist students who will be making their university decisions over the next few years achieve their dreams.”

To be held under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Education, GETEX 2017 will take place from April 13 to 15, 2017 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The key features of GETEX Spring 2017 include seminars and Career Advisory and Counsellor Forums. In addition, a new segment – the Student Activity Floor – will demonstrate ‘learning beyond the classroom’ by integrating sports, hobbies and skills in a team building environment.

The College Board announced on 21st February 2017

The College Board announced on 21st February 2017, a comprehensive set of policies to further strengthen efforts to enhance the security of the SAT, continue to ensure the integrity of scores delivered to colleges and universities, and protect the honest students who make up the vast majority of test takers.

sat-scantronThe new measures, which will be implemented in close partnership with the College Board’s members, constitute the most robust and direct actions taken by a college entrance exam provider against test takers seeking an unfair advantage on the test and companies and actors who assist them for their own profit or benefit. While the growing influence of organizations that steal and sell test content to students has been concentrated in a few international locations in recent years, the solutions to preserve the integrity of SAT scores must be implemented globally.
With the introduction of the new SAT last year, the College Board has increased test form development to reduce reuse, strengthened prevention and detection techniques, and bolstered efforts to identify and pursue those sharing copyright-protected test content.
“We are unwavering in our commitment to SAT test security and we will continue to confront any efforts to undermine it, including the unauthorized disclosure of test questions and test forms,” said Peter Schwartz, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel at the College Board. “There are three fundamental ways we protect the value of the SAT for test takers and score recipients: increasing the pool of test items, increasing security and deterrence, and limiting exposure of test materials by reducing the number of administrations. In all of our efforts, we’ve worked to strike a balance between thwarting those seeking an unfair advantage and providing testing opportunities for the vast majority of students who play by the rules.”
New measures announced today further increase security and preserve the integrity of SAT scores. They include:
  • Reducing the international testing dates for the SAT to four for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, with administrations in October, December, March, and May. Recognizing that international students use both the SAT and SAT Subject Tests to build competitive applications, SAT Subject Tests will be available in October, November, December, May, and June.
  • Canceling the June 2017 international SAT administration, as part of the change to the international test administration schedule. SAT Subject Tests will be available during the June 2017 administration.
  • Providing the names of test prep companies and individuals we suspect of stealing and receiving secure test content to law enforcement and other government agencies in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Prohibiting individuals from taking the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and Advanced Placement Exams when we conclude they have gained or attempted to gain or share an unfair advantage on any College Board test.
  • Exploring with both colleges and high schools effective ways to share with them – consistent with applicable laws and contractual obligations – whether their applicants or attending students, respectively, have gained or attempted to gain or share an unfair advantage on any College Board test.
  • Increasing test center audits worldwide.
  • Making it easier for students and educators to confidentially and anonymously report suspected cheating.
  • Expanding the College Board’s criteria for barring registrants who are taking the SAT for other than one of its intended purposes.
“With these new policies, the College Board is committed to expose and thwart individuals and organizations who attempt to steal and share test materials for profit or other gain,” said Jeremiah Quinlan, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Yale University. “My colleagues and I will continue to seek further means to protect the integrity of test administrations so that honest test-takers throughout the world can freely pursue their educational aspirations.”
“The College Board has been very mindful of the dual obligations to both confront bad actors and to ensure that students who play by the rules can pursue their lifelong dreams,” said Zina L. Evans, Vice President for Enrollment Management at the University of Florida. “This firm stance sends a clear signal that individuals or organizations attempting to steal and share test materials for their own profit and benefit will not be tolerated.”
“The College Board is taking new, bold action at the urging of our Board of Trustees and in consultation with colleagues in higher education,” said James Montoya, Chief of Membership, Governance, and Global Higher Education at the College Board. “We will continue to consult with educators and will take great care in implementing these actions.”
The policies will be enacted for future administrations. The College Board will provide more details to test takers and educators later this spring.
Following a comprehensive investigation and statistical analysis, the College Board also informed a number of students who sat for the January international SAT administration that their scores are being canceled. The scores for an additional set of students are being reviewed as part of ongoing comprehensive investigations. These actions are part of the standard process of ensuring the integrity of each SAT administration.
The new policies announced today build on enhanced security measures the College Board has implemented over the past few years, including:
  • Increased security of test materials prior to and during an exam administration, including delivery and storage procedures, rules for access, and the implementation of secure lockboxes.
  • Comprehensive test-day administration protocols including sign-in and photo ID requirements, limiting testing room access, protocols for seating, and procedures for monitoring examinee behavior.
  • Rigorous and innovative statistical analyses to identify invalid scores.
“The College Board’s latest innovative approach to address attempts to gain an unfair advantage will help in reflecting students’ real academic standing and achievements when considering their application,” said Cesar Wazen, Director of Scholarships & Partnerships Office, Qatar University. “We thank College Board leadership for standing up for colleges, aspiring students, and their families around the world.”
